Dear Friends,
Being that we do not meet on Holy Thursday, or Holy Saturday, I have included readings for all three days known as the Triduum. These are solemn days that can best be spent reflecting on how much we are loved by our God.
Holy Thursday is a day that we remember our God’s wish in Jesus that God wants to be one-with-us, and has thus given us the Eucharist, a tangible way for us to “feel” our God’s presence. Our task then, is to go out and share Jesus’ presence and message, his “body and blood” – his words and actions in our world. It is in this extension that Jesus’ body and blood is truly seen in our world, and the purpose for his coming, to live through each of us.
Jesus showed us so beautifully, the night before he died how we “are to be” in our world, when he humbled himself by washing the feet of those gathered for this last sacred meal. And I believe we can be sure that our brother Jesus included the women and the children too!
Holy Thursday is also the night that all ordained persons, women and men remember their calls to be of service to others, and again, so beautifully depicted in the washing of the feet.
On Good Friday we will physically meet.
Holy Saturday, as we await the Resurrection to new life, the Church reviews the story of faith in six Old and New Testament readings. I have included a sampling of them here. This service always includes the Blessing of New Light and remembers our baptisms, with the understanding that we are to carry that “light” into our often, it seems, dark world.
We will gather on Easter Sunday with the return of alleluias! Please be with us in spirit if you can’t be with us in person.
May you each be blessed during this holiest of weeks.
Peace and love,
Pastor Kathy
